The Biggest Loser Competition


1 Cor. 6:19- "..don't you know that your body is a temple...?"NLT

How many of us have tried to lose weight, but after one day we forget why we ever started the impossible feat to begin with. If I had a penny for every woman I know who wants to lose weight...that's not saying that they need to lose weight, but they want to. Most of us, when we fit easily into our jeans feel a little bit better about ourselves. It's not a bad thing...obsessing about it is bad, but losing weight for health is GREAT. When we are at a healthy weight, we have energy for our loved ones and we are a great example for the Kingdom. You may be asking yourself, "Why on earth is she starting this competition right before the holidays??" I am sure that there has been a year in each one of our lives where we have put, "Lose weight" at the top of our New Year's Resolutions. In '09, I want our New Year's Resolutions to be, "Enjoy my healthy body!"


So, let's get started....


My Rules for the competition (It's my blog, so I set the rules! Hehe!):


1. No starvation- eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner...and healthy snacks, too, if you're hungry


2. Do something active everyday- that may be chasing the kids, walking the halls at school, etc., but do it for health, not weight loss. Dr. Oz and Rozien saysin their book The Real Age Makeover that every person needs a 1/2 hour walk everyday. My stipulation: just do something active & fun! It is great for the psyche.


3. Goal= healthy weight or a little above...not below! Look on the Ideal weight calculator on Self.com. This gives a great range of numbers to shoot for. You can choose to be at the low end or high end.


4. Focus on health-strive to make right eating choices everyday and enjoy the food of the earth. As much as you can, eat whole grains and less sugar! You're going to feel great.


5. Read something encouraging everyday. Take at least 10 minutes in the morning and focus your day. Restate your goals, give up your own desires and ask God to help you make right decisions and prioritize your life. 10 minutes is doable!!!


6. Blog every other day at least. We need the encouragement and accountability from one another.

HI!
1. My goal weight is 120, lower would be better, but with the holidays and food, I'm trying be realistic! I'd like to be comfortable in my old clothes by Lily's first birthday.
2. I plan to achieve this goal by eating smaller portions of healthier food (fruits & veggies)and walking or running 2 miles a day.
3. I'm going to eat more fruits & veggies.
4. I like nothing about my body right now, post-baby, which is why I'm so excited about this competition.
5. No excuses.

Hi Heather,

Okay, this is a great idea because this is my main problem, I struggle with this all the time.
Soooooo....
Number 1: 150 lbs. ( I will not achieve this by xmas, but that is the long term goal.)
My christmas I hope to lose 15 lbs.

Number 2: I plan to reach this goal by eating healthy, not eating after 8pm and exercising 4 times per week

Number 3: i want to drink more water, take my vitamins and eat more veggies

Number 4:I like my smile.

Number 5: "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way to get the prize."- 1 cor. 9:24

this scripture isnt meant to be funny inasmuch as this is competition, but rather inspiration to run my race to win each day...

Answer to prayer!! Need encouragment and accountablity!!! Trying hard to lose and even harder to not cheat on myself.

Number 1: 15 pounds by then i am down 35 from date of delivery--June 3 just to get healthier

Number 2: exercising three times a week and not snacking when noone is looking---to stop eating junk and focus on healthier alternitives

Number 3: more veggies and fruits as snacks

Number 4: I like my smile and that is it-- I am tired of looking at myself and not smiling- not feeling confident and not loving myself enough - thinking my hubby doesn't like what he sees- which is so untrue

Number 5 my theme verse i will get back to you- going to pray tongith about it

I got my verse:
Tammy Loew- this verse has been in my face over six months for different reasons.
i weighed in this morning Ahhh!!
Ephesians 3:17b-19 And I pray that you , being rooted and established in love, may have power, togehter with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.Now to him who is able to do immeasurably mare than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

May we each literally be FILLED with the fullness of Christ not needed to be so filled with the food we eat but by feast on God's word! His promises are filling and getting all we can out of his word. When we crave food may we run to His Wrod and eat and be filled!!

Sorry Heather, I just realized I've been commenting on the wrong page. I received my joint health complex last night and took it first thing this morning. I can't wait for results! Weigh in results: 2 lbs. gone! Hope you're doing okay and getting more sleep!

The blog has kind of confused everyone in some way! Hopefully, next time will be easier! I am praying that the Joint Health Complex works. I read a great article about it today, telling about the wonderful benefits of Glucosamine. Please keep me updated!! Usually I have to call people and find out if they're taking what they ordered and if they have questions, so it is nice to have you volunteer the information.

Oh, yeah, I LOST 2 POUNDS, too!! I weighed myself at the Y this morning. I was shocked. Like you said, I was feeling like my clothes were fitting a little bit better!

My goal weight is 125. I want to continue to exercise 3x per week but add strength training on the other days to build muscle since muscle burns fat!! I need to eat more veggies and fruit instead of bread!
I like my hourglass shape; the hourglass is just a little too big!
My verse for this adventure is II Timothy 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind." It takes courage, power, love (dealing with your own self-hatred or other anger), and certainly the mind of Christ to face your weaknesses or addictions and do what you must to lose weight and get healthy. So here I go!!

My goal is 145, which IS not achievable by 12/20/08, but I plan to be thinner by then- maybe 15 lbs?

I will reach my goal by eating 3 smallish meals a day with 2 healthy (veggies, fruit or nuts) snacks. I love chocolate and rather than go crazy (and cheat constantly)because I can't have any for 6 weeks, I am going to allow myself 1 small piece of dark chocolate each day. I also plan to walk, or jump on my trampoline for 10-15 minutes a day, which is more than I do now- which is nothing. And, spiritually, I want to fill myself with His Word and see what He has to tell me about this journey I am on. So, I will spend some of my time in the Word listening, also.

I'm going to drink more water. Lately, I've been lax in that. And, more fruits and veggies- salads... yum!

I like my face and my hair.

My verse/saying is The Lord causes my thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and so my plans are established and succeed. Pro 16:3(Amp)

Hi Heather,
Here is my entry.

1. your goal weight I would like to be 135. So I will say that is my goal and we will see what happens. (I'm guessing that is 15-20 pounds, but I have no idea what I weight...)

2.how you plan to achieve your goal Eating more fruits and vegetables (see number 3). Increasing activity for the week to structured times, specifically set aside for...which is fun... really. Eating only one item per hungry snack period. Drinking more water like I used to do. Also, I ordered a new study bible -since my old one was moldy and I had to throw it out... :( - so I want to break it in...read from it every day...make notes, highlight...really get into what the Lord wants to tell me...even if it's only a few verses a day. The Lord can do so much with just a few words....

3.one thing you're going to start eating more of - Fruits and vegetables. Both. I want to make a concerted effort to eat both of them each day.

4. your theme verse or saying for the next month and a half
"It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." Galatians 5:1 (NASB)
See how it says "again"? Like... we were already subject to the yoke of slavery...maybe multiple times. But Christ wants us to be free...

I also really like the Message version:
"Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you." -Galatians 5:1
It takes my breath away to read it that way... There are so many forms of slavery...anything that keeps us from being fully free in Christ, anything that restricts that hope and joy He wants us to have in our lives. Anything that makes us stop doing something that would otherwise be fine... the Lord wants us to have abundant lives... not under any harness...and under His yoke only.

1. your goal weight: my weight before baby #4-
Had difficulties in last pregnancy- major nerve damage in spine and legs- leaving me with edima that won't go away- I have worked so hard the last (almost) three years to recover- I have a muscular disease, so the extra weight causes more harm- I have tried everything- when I ran, I chipped a bone in my knee- when I ate nothing, I swelled, pilates caused a pinched nerve- and walking caused more swelling and i broke a bone in my foot-
but my theory- don't give up- I am not at my desired weight, but my quality of life is beyond measure- I am thrilled to be a part of this program- at this moment I could use the motivation- struggles only make victory sweet!
Anyway, my goal by 12-20 is 10 pounds!

Believe!~ and get more sleep!
And eat smaller more frequent meals-

more almonds and less coffee cream

Romans 8:18- I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Hi it's Amy
I went back and forth in my head before deciding to take this challenge. I said I don't want to post my weight :), should I push myself yet(my baby Haley was just born 4 weeks ago tomorrow (10-12-2008); basically a bunch of excuses. Ok so here I am and I know there are good things that can come from this too. Obviously, I could lose a few pounds even though I know I can't lose it all in 6 weeks but I can start some really good habits that can strengthen my body, friendships, and mostly my relationship with God.
1. your goal weight: I am currently 134 which is
12 pounds heavier than pre Haley so that's my
first goal BUT ultimately I wouldnt mind
being back at 118 where I was when I got
married on 7-7-07
I don't want to get hung up on the number I
too want to fit back into my size clothes. I
just had to buy some pants to wear until I
can fit mine. I don't want to spend my money
on pants 2 sizes bigger than what I'm used to.
2.how you plan to achieve your goal
I will need to eat healthier in moderate
portions. I can either get on the eliptical
or at least the treadmill for a half an hour a
day unless this crazy weather gives us a few
more nice days so I can walk with Derek(my
son), Haley, and Stanley(the doggie).
I will not beat myself up if I give in to a
not so good for me snack.
I am also going to read my bible more and
start with The Daily Bread as a starting
guide. I have never been disciplined in this
area and would like to get conditioned to
doing it everyday.
3.one thing you're going to start eating more of
Fruits/veggies and yogurt (this helped me
with losing weight after Derek)
I also noticed that oatmeal makes me feel
full and is pretty good for me. I will need
to drink more water too.
4.one thing you like about your body
I like that my body gave me beautiful
children :)
5. your theme verse or saying for the next month and a half
I spent some time on this and found a
website that searches for verses by theme. I
searched "encouragement" and this one stuck
out to me
"II Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of
fear, but of power and of love and of
a self control."(eng std version)
Weight loss is very much about self control.
I am looking forward to this challenge and feeling like "me" again.

My goal is 15 lbs.

My scripture is John 4:34, Jesus said to them "My food (nourishment) is to do the will (pleasure) of Him who sent Me and to acccomplish and completely finish His work".

I would like for my "nourishment" to be centered on Him and His work instead of feeding my face.

Just to encourage you princesses. My prayer for time and energy and desire to exercise and eat better. This morning God woke up my baby girl right before my hubby's alarm goes off. I felt like it was his timing- I felt rested and ready. I spent one hour in his word and then exercised for half and hour-- in the midst my son came out and Satan tried to distract me but I just shared with him what I was doing and it went so fast!! I even got to shower and wirte you all . We serve a powerful and compassionate God who can do far above what we can ask or imagine!!! Trust him to do what you need!!
Ain't no mountain high enough!!!! to keep me from reachin'my goallll

Sorry for the no-posts this past weekend, I was out of town on a church ladies' retreat. I had a wonderful time with friends and hearing from the Lord, however I have not been feeling very well with a cold and terrible cough. I have been tempted to get discouraged with various hurdles to overcome, but I cannot allow those thoughts to set in. I feel much better today, I went to the gym and even ran, praying my knees don't punish me for it, and feel much refreshed. I really love living a healthier lifestyle, it takes a lot of resolve and determination to stick with it, but I am so glad I am where I am now and not where I was 3 months ago!
