1. I decided to join the challenge because the first time around was fun and really helped me stay focused--and exercising!
2. My goal weight is 115; about 7 lbs. (at least it was 7 lbs. before Christmas!)
3. I plan to achieve my goal by getting back to counting calories, cutting out sweets and exercising 3-4 times a week.
4. One thing I love about the way I look:my midsection is much smaller than it was 3 months ago.
5. Emergency plan: look back at how far I've come, and look forward to my goal and then go for a walk.
1. I decided to join because Elaine was ecouraging me. I didn't do so great the first time around and hope to be more focused on eating better and excercising this time.
2.My goal is to lose 8 lbs for the first lap.
3. I plan to eat less sweets and exercise three times a week.
4. One thing I like about my body is my hair.
5. Emergency plan; I will read the blogs, my Bible or call a friend.
Happy New Year!
I wanted to be the first person to sign up in 2009 and I couldn't have my mom compete without me :)
I agree with Lori... 8 pounds in the first lap, a healthy two pounds a week, is a good goal. [plus I got a scale for my birthday, so I'm all set for the weigh-ins.] But if I lost 20-30 pounds in the next 6 months, I'd be happy over all.
By the second half of the lap I should be able to focus on exercising more...and in the first half of the lap, it shouldn't be hard to stay busy and eat less.
I've also found that I'm tempted to give up when I'm tired. So... rather than be tired, not exercise and stay awake...I'm just going to go to sleep or take a nap and not feel bad about it. Each day is a new day. Goals and challenges are to help us look forward, not to make us frustated with what we haven't done.
I want to focus more on the Bible this time and spending time with the Lord. I got a new study Bible and I'll have a whole new schedule, so I can make it whatever I want in the morning :)
Blessings to everyone! :)
Hi Ladies it Missy!
1. decided to join because I failed hardcore last time and I am determined to pull it off this time. Plus I have a plan...
2. My goal is to lose 5 lbs in the first lap.
3. My main goal is to follow my 20 week plan to run a 10K, my goal is to run the Cleveland 10K on May 17th (Brad is running the 1/2 marathon on the same day)As far as eating, my main goals are to drink enough water, take my vitamins and avoid junk food and dumb foods.
4. My emergency plan is prayer, call a friend or check in with the blog.
Heres to a healthier year!!!
1. Why I decided to join the challenge: Heather, your blog is so encouraging! I am thanking God for the spiritual boost it gave met to read it. That’s why I decided to join the challenge.
2. My health goal: I really like your MAHMA acronym and the S.M.A.R.T. suggestions for this New Year. I had already been thinking about this, but it prompted me to make some formal goals. One goal for 2009 is to be an encourager of my husband’s physical health. He is such a huge encourager of my spiritual health… and I think I need to balance that with helping us to make time together for exercise… like walking outside or on the treadmill.
3. How I plan to achieve it: I want to make it a fun and not a regimented part of the Mullins’ leisure time. When we don’t walk outside or spend time on the treadmill (at least 2 times per week), my Emergency Plan is to tell him that we have to go to the mall to walk! I also want Mike and I to commit to doing devotions together at least once a week.
4. One thing I love about the way I look: And finally, I want to focus on being more outwardly “joyful” aiming for the goal that others would more readily see the light of Christ through me. (I look better smiling anyhow… so I will be working on loosing the stress-ridden look on my face.)
Thanks for sharing your prayer requests for your family… which are so sweet to read and served as a reminder to me to PRAY MORE with a focus on the blessings God wants to pour out on his beloved.
1. I'm joining the challenge more for health reasons than weight loss. Technically, I'm not overweight, however, I very much need to change my eating habits. Yesterday I attended a 'detox' seminar with a friend (detox meaning relative to the many toxins in our food, our environment) and would like to prep for a 21 day detoxification diet by beginning to eliminate some of my less than healthy habits.
2. Although your challenge is a weight loss challenge, my success is more 'healthy living'. So my challenge is to, one day at a time, begin to adopt a healthier lifestyle...so, by the end of the challenge, I want to be exercising 1/2 hour per day, drinking more water, and eliminating evening 'snacks'.
3. I have a few friends at work who are also looking for lifestyle changes. So, we're banding together to support each other through this process. One will be walking with me at lunch; another will also be enlisting in the 21-day detox program. So, success thru support!
4. I've been told that my smile lights up a room, so I'll have to believe that. But mostly what I like about myself is that I enjoy making other people happy. (I have great skin too, but that's thanks to my mom and dad!)
5. My emergency plan is to recognize that it's okay to fail. But the main thing is to get back in there, shake it off, and start again! Be as kind to yourself as to a friend - never give up!
1. I decided to join because I want to work on living a healthier lifestyle this year so I can be an example to my child(ren).
2. I would like to lose around 5 lbs but my main goal is to eat healthier and live in a healthier environment.
3. I plan to eat more fruits and veggies, research better cleaning products (better for my families health) and start to try some new foods that are healthy (like gross fish).
4. I like my dimple, I think its unique
5. Emergency Plan: Ask for help and encouragment!!
1. I need to be lighter for better health and feel lighter just for me!
2. My goal weight is 125.
3. I am eating healthy, natural foods. The first week or two I will cut down on carbs eating lean proteins, nuts, and veggies. After that, I will add a 2-3 healthy carbs to my day. I will eat 3 small meals with 2 small snacks in between, quitting by 7pm. I am exercising 45-60 minutes daily and varying what I do so that my body does not start building resistance to my plan. Supplements are an absolute necessity to supply what the body is lacking. (Shaklee is a healthy resource for them.)
4. I like my hourglass shape.
5. My emergency plan is to ask God's help daily in this health challenge. I will remember that a healthy body is God's LOVING plan for me, not a harsh plan. If I trip, just like every other failure, I will get up, learn from it, and 'fail forward'. I will look for my 'triggers' and seek to overcome them.
I need to lose lots of weight and I want to lose it this year. I have a goal in mind and this time next year I intend to have met it.
I need to cut down on portions, stop snacking so much, and drink more water. I'm exercising but still not enough. But I'm doing better than I have.
I definitely need Gods help in this.
Margaret H.
My goals are the same as lap 1. Eat better foods and to exercise more. I need to grt a regular routine to build long term habits. I weigh 125 now which is only 3 pounds more than pre-Haley who is now 4 months but its repositioned to my tummy butt and hips, which is exactly where I didn't want it :) I enjoy these challenges and "talking" to everyone
My goal is to stay focused and lose 4-5 lbs. on Lap 2. I lost 3 lbs. on lap one, and 1 lb over the break. So now I'm at 182.
The weight is coming off slowly, but I honestly feel that they are lbs. gone for good.
I also want to try to get in some more exercise. Now that the winter is slowly coming to an end, I hope that I can get to the Y in the evenings after work.
1. I am continuing to do the challenge because the accountability is great for me and I love sharing in everyone's successes!
2. My health goals for this lap are to focus on exercise and healthy eating.
3. I will run 3 days/ week, weight train 2 days/ week and Read my Bible and pray EVERYDAY.
Heather, thanks for this opportunity! Do I understand correctly that this is not a "no man zone"?
I am joining the challenge because, as a recently-diagnosed diabetic, I want to get serious about reversing my high blood-sugar numbers. Everything I have read indicates that exercise can reverse the numbers.
My goal is to walk/run 3 times a week and to do an aerobics routine at least once a week. A 5 pound weight loss would be good too.
Hello all, I am joining the challenge for two reasons. First, as a new contributor to the blog, I decided it was important to be a part of everybody's misery and successes. Second, due to my own health problems over the past months I have lost 25 lbs and a lot of my strength. My health goals for this lap are to gain 6 pounds of muscle and decrease my body fat to 7%. I will accomplish this through precise nutrition planning, weight training and cardiovascular exercise.
I have decided to join the challenge because I want to live a more healthy lifestyle. Not only could I eat healthier but I can stand to lose 15-20 pounds in the process. My plan is to cut out the fast food and exercise 20 minutes a day. Plus bragging rights over all the guys in the challenge wouldn't hurt either. Good luck to everyone!!
I shouldn't speak for Heather but WE WELCOME men. We all have troubles and need encouragement! Having a man's view will help us as well as a man having our view. Good LUCK EVERYONE! PRAYERS FOR ALL! Good Bless you this week!
Didn't know if we had to resign up if we were in Lap 1! However I will.Your entry should include:
1. Why you decided to join the challenge and get healthy: To be a healthy for my family and to look good!
2. Your Health Goal:My Health Goal is to be a 120lbs by Christmas this year! My goald for Lap one was to get focused stay focused and start losing weight. I weighed in today at 172.8 I started on Jan5th at 187lbs! I am exstatic about my loss so far! My mini goal was 14lbs by February 28th my birthday and I made it already! I can't thank all of you enough! PRAYERS Encouragement love from you all is more than I could ever imagine.
3. How you plan to achieve your goal: Now with the snow melted and the days longer I think I am going to bundle the kids up and hit the streets for some walking/jogging. If I get going good here now, I may be in good enough shape to run the peace race in October! Lastly Journaling adn keeping track of my weight watcher points. If I bite I will write it! If it's a unhelathy choice writing why I chose it and a better option for the next time! LOVE YOU ALL!
I'm joining lap 2 b/c I need to get a handle on my life. It's been really hard going back to work full time and taking care of a baby and a house. I have no time for myself anymore, and that has included exercise since I've gone back to work in early December. My goal for lap 2 is to get back to walking/jogging 3-4 times a week. As daylight savings approaches soon, this should be more manageable once I get home to get in a walk before dark. Once I accomplish this goal in lap 2, I will begin to make goals in future laps for body fat % and upcoming races. Thanks Heather for caring so much about everyone to put this together.
Hi everyone coming on late, but looking forward to this form of support.
I'm joining because I need this focus point to help me get on a better eating rountine to help me lose weight.
I am focusing right now on eating 5 meals a day consisently instead of 2 non regulated meals.
I plan to follow the smaller but consistent eating habits and watch the portions and combinations of food along with not eating past 9pm. and to return to a more faithful walking schedule 3xs a week. So now that I have all of you on this site, I am a Gal with a Pal for healthy living.
I am joining lap 2 so Josh isn't the only male (and then he won't have bragging rights alone). My goal is to lose 10 lbs. and get back to running. I've been longing to get on a track again for some months and I think this will help me do so by summer! I plan to exercise at the YMCA with treadmill and weights to start. I'm married to the Health Challenge Queen so I have help already in the healthy food department (no chips or junk food in my cupboard...except now Girl Scout cookies!). Good luck to everyone...watch out Josh!
Welcome Everyone!! I am looking forward to learning from each other:-)
